Where can photorejuvenation be used?
Although the face, neck, chest and hands are the most common treatment areas,
photorejuvenation can be used on all parts of the body. BBL photorejuvenation is often used
to treat rosacea because it can successfully resolve the dilated blood vessels and redness
without impacting surrounding healthy skin, greatly reducing episodes of flushing with long-
term effectiveness.
What does a photorejuvenation treatment consist of?
Bright broad spectrum light is transmitted through a handpiece with an integrated thermo-
electric cooled sapphire plate that keeps the treatment area safe and cool. The broadband
light technology ensures more efficiency and greater treatment response control. BBL has
the single widest pulse width range and the most uniform light density in the industry and
double or triple pulses can be delivered for advanced treatments.
Prior to the treatment it is very important that the area to be treated is not tanned and that
self tanning products have not been applied for at least two weeks. Tanned or self-tanned
skin is not safe to treat with photorejuvenation.
Your treatment begins with cleansing the area to be treated. A clear, cool gel is then applied
to the treatment area. Protective eye wear is provided to shield your eyes from the light
energy. The sapphire cooling plate is held adjacent to the skin and the pulses of light are
applied. A brief warmth or a snapping sensation may be felt during the moment that the
pulse is occurring. Treatments are painless, though a topical anesthetic cream can be
applied 30 to 60 minutes prior to the treatment if desired. Immediately following the treatment
the skin may appear flushed and brown spots may darken. You may feel a warm flush, like a
light sunburn, for half an hour after the treatment. Cooling gel can be applied after your
treatment to diminish this warmth. Over the next several days, the brown spots subsequently
flake off. Treatment time typically ranges from 20 to 45 minutes.
When will I notice the effects of a photorejuvenation treatment?
Even after your first treatment expect to see a decrease in redness, broken capillaries,
irregular pigmentation, pore size and fine lines. Improvement is gradual as your body's own
repair mechanisms rid the skin of the unwanted pigment, remodel reactive blood vessels,
and increase collagen production. Your end result is a significantly more even skin tone,
impressive improvements in skin texture and a more luminous, healthy complexion. You may
experience dramatic results after one or two treatments, though a series of four or five
treatments may be chosen for optimal results. |
